In the creative team of Splash By Lo, we draw inspiration from multiple and varied sources in order to create and design our collections. For some years, we have been writing about how we tend to turn to the world of art, prestigious and iconic designers, cult objects, memorable films, trips that have been a life experience, among many other inspirational references to create our designs. But in all this time we have never mentioned one of our most recurrent and important sources of inspiration, which we have always taken for granted.

This time, though, we are talking about books—those travel companions to which we go to search for references, those that nourish us with knowledge and which we treasure in our bookcases as something unique and valuable.
Today we explore five fascinating reference books that not only celebrate creativity, but also offer an endless source of ideas that allow us to take our designs to new dimensions.

  1. Scarves: A Century of Art in Motion
Scarves have always been much more than a fashion accessory: they represent a blank canvas for artistic expression. This illustrated compendium explores how legendary designers such as Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent or Christian Lacroix transformed simple pieces of fabric into iconic pieces. Each scarf tells a story, and its vibrant colours and bold patterns can inspire swimsuit prints with retro-glamorous feel or classic sophistication.
  2. Pantone: The 20th Century in Colour
The evolution of colour throughout the twentieth century becomes an essential guide for any designer. This volume combines 80 official Pantone palettes with more than 200 references in art, fashion and decoration, offering a chronological vision of chromatic trends. From the pastel shades of the 50s to the neon tones of the 80s, each page invites you to experiment with bold combinations for fresh and contemporary designs.
  3. The World of Ornament: A Decorative Journey
For those looking for patterns with historical roots, this encyclopedic collection is a gem. It brings together the two most important catalogues of ornaments of the nineteenth century, ranging from medieval motifs to Middle Eastern styles. It contains lavish prints of complex and detailed designs which can be translated into elegant prints that bring a handmade and exotic touch to any swimwear collection.
  4. The Fabric of India: Textile Wealth
This book is a tribute to the opulence of Indian textiles. With lush photographs and detailed descriptions, it is a source of inspiration for prints full of colour, symmetry and sophistication. Perfect for creating swimsuits that combine tradition and modernity.
  5. Cabinet of Natural Curiosities
Nature has always been a powerful muse, and this eighteenth-century catalogue is a testament to that. From exotic creatures to extinct species, each illustration is a tribute to the diversity of the natural world. Finding inspiration in these images can result in organic and detailed prints that evoke an adventurous and free spirit.

These books not only document the visual history of design, but also open up a range of possibilities to reinterpret the past and create designs that tell unique stories in each piece of Splash By Lo.
